Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, founded in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori, is a leading Italian winery that produces a variety of red wines, white wines, grappa, and olive oil. The estate, located on the Maremma coast in Bolgheri, is known for its Super Tuscan producers and runs a Michelin star restaurant, Ristorante Ornellaia. In 2012, the winery changed its name to "Ornellaia e Masseto" to emphasize the importance of Merlot-based wine. The estate also owns the iconic Tuscan neighboring property Masseto, Italy's top Merlot. In 2001, Lodovico Antinori sold the property to US winemaker Robert Mondavi, who then sold a 50% share to Frescobaldi in 2002. In 2005, Frescobaldi took complete control of Ornellaia. The Ornellaia Superiore production is around 140,000 bottles a year, while the Le Serre Nuove and Le Volte wines are around 150,000 and 450,000 bottles respectively. Top Ornellaia vintages include 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2019.
